Fero Royale Y2 announced with 3900mAh battery & 13MP camera: Specs & Price

January 7, 2018 by yorubadev Leave a Comment

Fero Mobiles has announced the Fero Royale Y2, its latest smartphone in the Fero Royale series in Nigeria. The Royale Y2 was announced on the company’s official Facebook page, and from the looks of things, it’s a downgrade to the Royale X2 that was launched in 2017. Starting the new year with a downgrade to an existing device doesn’t sound right to me, but it’s still early to conclude. We can only wait to see what Fero Mobiles has in store for us.

The Fero Royale Y2 is a budget Android smartphone with a wide 5.5-inch display. Fero has been producing good smartphones of late, and the Royale Y2 is no exception. It has something for everyone; those who need to do heavy tasks for a long period of time on their smartphones are satisfied with a 3900mAh battery capacity, and selfie lovers have an 8-megapixel shooter all to themselves. It also runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Fero Royale Y2 In-depth Specifications

Display & Design

Fero Royale Y2 Display

As mentioned earlier, the Fero Royale Y2 features a 5.5-inch TFT display which is wide enough to allow you enjoy gaming and watch your videos comfortably. It has an HD (720 * 1,280) pixel resolution, offering clear picture representation and decent contrast ratios.

Fero Royale Y2 dimensions

The Royale Y2 has a metal aluminium frame and a polycarbonate back cover which is modelled to look and feel like metal, hence concealing the fact that it’s a budget device. The phone is 8.4 millimetres thick and weighs 168 grammes.

Performance, Storage & Memory

The Fero Royale Y2 is powered under the hood by the same quad-core MediaTek MT6737 CPU and Mali-T720 GPU that power its predecessor (or should we say successor now?).

A clock CPU frequency of 1.25GHz means that the smartphone can only handle average tasks with minimal lag, but 2GB of RAM ensures that multitasking is handled effectively.

The Royale Y2 comes with 16GB of default internal storage, which is lower than the 32GB in the Royale X2. You can also add up to 128GB of extra storage by inserting an external microSD card into the phone’s dedicated microSD slot.

Camera

The Fero Royale Y2 comes with a 13-megapixel camera that has autofocus and a f/2.0 aperture on the rear. It is also accompanied by a LED flash which aids visibility in low-light conditions.

A 13-megapixel camera with the same aperture size (f/2.0) as the main camera handles selfie photography at the front, and it comes with a LED flash which brightens up your selfies.

Battery, Connectivity & Software

The Fero Royale Y2 packs a 3,900mAh Li-Po battery that can last for more than a full day, even on heavy usage. The inclusion of such a large battery capacity by Fero on this smartphone is commendable, considering that the Royale Y2 is targeted at a region plagued with constant blackouts and power issues.

With this, you don’t need to carry an extra power bank. However, the Royale Y2 doesn’t come with fast charging like the Royale X2, and it will take some time to charge the phone up to 100% when the battery gets flat.

For wireless connectivity, you get dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1 on the Royale Y2. The smartphone also comes with 4G LTE connectivity and supports bands 3, 7 and 20. In terms of software, the Fero Royale Y2 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

Fero Royale Y2 Lite

There’s a lower variant of the Royale Y2 called the Fero Royale Y2 Lite, and the only difference between both smartphones is that the standard Royale Y2 has 4G LTE connectivity while the Royale Y2 Lite doesn’t; it’s pegged at 3G connectivity. All other specifications remain the same.

Fero Royale Y2 Price and Availability

Fero Royale Y2 Specs

The Fero Royale Y2 comes in Champagne and Black colours and is already available in offline and online stores in Nigeria for around N42,000. The Fero Royale Y2 Lite can be purchased for around N39,000.
