Android 8 Oreo is currently the latest version of the Android Operating System, even though the second beta developer preview for the next version of Android, version 9.0 (Android P) has been released recently by Google. For weeks now, there have been rife speculations that the Infinix Note 4 will receive the official Android Oreo update from Infinix Mobility after series of beta testing. The rumours and speculations have, however, turned out to be valid as some units of the Infinix Note 4 have received notifications prompting them to update to the latest Google OS.
I use the Infinix Note 4 as my daily driver and some hours into March 10, 2018 (about 2:00 AM), I received a “System Update” message in my notification tray prompting me to install my device to the latest system version. Upon clicking the prompt, Alas! it was the latest Android Oreo v8.1.
With this update, the Infinix Note 4 will be the first smartphone from the OEM to receive the Android Oreo update. Some features that the Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo update will bring on board include:
- New message notification.
- New eye protection mode.
- DUO video call.
- New Picture-in-Picture mode.
- Singlehanded mode updated.
- Updated GMS patch.
Asides the new additions, the Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo update will also optimize the:
- display (screen) and camera effects,
- display of theme wallpapers,
- battery endurance,
- desktop layout, and
- system stability and performance.
Requirements for Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo update
All Infinix Note 4 units (new and old) are eligible for this update, but the following requirements have to be met for a successful update:
- An unrooted Infinix Note 4, as Infinix has warned that the update may crash/brick rooted Note 4. So you should unroot your device if you want to update your install the Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo update over-the-air.
- At least 30% battery life. And if during the upgrade, your battery falls below 30%, you should plug in your device to a power source. A 50% battery level is recommended.
- At least 2GB ROM. The update package has a size of 1.8GB, but Infinix recommends you have up to 2GB of storage space on your phone (NOT SD card) before proceeding to download and install the update.
How to Download and Install Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo Update
Click on the “System update is available” prompt in the notification tray.
If you don’t get the notification to update, you can access the update by navigating to “Settings” >> “About phone” >> “System update“.
Click on “Download and Install” to start downloading the update package.
Depending on your network reception and strength, the download should take between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
When the download is complete, the upgrade package is verified and you can now proceed with the installation of the Android Oreo v8.1 OS by clicking “Install“.
The Infinix Note 4 will automatically go off and begin the installation. This takes only about 5 minutes.
Once the installation is complete, the device reboots and finishes the update.
At this point, you should notice some changes in the entire UI of the device.
- The cliche “Gallery” icon has been renamed to “My Picture”.
- Some new applications like “Phone Master” and “Eagleee” came with the update.
- App icons are different and have cool new shapes.
Notification tray has been rebranded
The picture on the left depicts the Note 4’s notification tray in Nougat and the one on the right is what I found when I updated to Android 8.1 Oreo.
On the new Android Oreo notification tray, the brightness level adjuster has been moved to the top, while “Date” now stays at the bottom of the tray. Battery icon has also been modified.
There is also a new “Eye Care” mode in the notification tray that allows helps filter out harmful blue light emission from the Note 4 screen. This is very suitable for night time usage or people (like me) who dislike too much (bright) light in the eyes.
In addition, you can now easily enable battery saver from the notification tray. There is also an edit icon in the notification where you can add (and remove) new shortcut and tools to the notification tray.
Improved Gallery Features
The Gallery (now “My Pictures”) now has cool file manager kind of features. From the Gallery, you can directly hide folders containing pictures and videos by clicking on the eye icon 👁 at the top right corner when the Gallery is opened.
And to the one I like the most; you can shrink images. This reduces image size and helps saves spaces. However, image quality may reduce during shrinking.
Redefined Settings Menu
The settings menu doesn’t look familiar anymore…but it’s beautiful.
Multitask Better
When you want to switch between apps, there is a new multi-window icon that easily allows you enable the “split-screen” mode and hints if an app supports split screen or not.
**If the split-screen icon is cancelled, the app doesn’t support split-screen.
That’s pretty much all I could catch in the new Infinix Note 4 Android Oreo update. I’ll keep updating this article with any new and interesting findings I come across in the new Android version.

I tried upgrading to the oreo 8.1 after receiving the notification. After downloading, it said the installation package was corrupt or something of the sort; now i cant even get install it anymore, tho i still get the notification, but once i click on the “system upgrade” icon, it’ll display “your system is upto date”. My android version is currently Nougat.
Any help?
Infinix has currently withdrawn the over-the-air (OTA) update for the Infinix Note 4 following complaints by some users shortly after the update started rolling out.
It worked fine for us here and many others, but the update also broke some features in other users’ phones. Consequently, Infinix has had to withdraw the update since it’s a beta release and not the final build.
So, unless you were able to update yours immediately or shortly after it was released as we described here, you will have to wait a while in order to get Android 8.1 Oreo running on your Infinix Note 4.
Luckily, Infinix has promised to release the final update package before or by the end of April, so you won’t have to wait too long 🙂

Hi there, a number of things could go wrong resulting in that zip error. Could be a problem with where the downloaded update file was stored, or anything else. The only thing you can do when this happens is to download the update again. I downloaded mine twice before I could update.
Just updated, the only thing nice about this update is the appearance, na music player and the app lock feature is no longer available. Wish I didn’t update. 😪

Hello, I actually updated mine yesterday 24/06/2018 and everything works perfectly fine, except I can’t seem to get the option to change my font style which I had before, I can only see option for change of font size. I’m currently stuck with the default font and I hate it terribly. How can I change my phone’s font without rooting to support third party apps for font?
Do you still have the change of font style option or font size alone? I don’t want to root because I could loose my warranty and the phone could also crash.

Hello there, you can still change your font, but maybe not the way you’re used to. Simply open the XTheme app on your phone, switch to the “Discovery” tab and click on Font.

Please do go on and download the latest update. It comes with the face unlock feature for your Infinix smartphone, and it’s quite nice. There are other performance tweaks also. Installing it won’t hurt.

Hi, for App lock, open the Phone Master app and you’ll find the feature there.
For Infinix Face Unlock, go to Settings >> Security & Location and you should see the option there.
i have upgraded since may 2018 but still having issues. eg before my upgrade i was connecting wit my office wifi but after the upgrade its been having issues connecting directly to wifi unless i do it using hotspot from my desktop to my note 4
Hi there, I’m sorry about the issues you’re facing. The update package released before June was a beta version and it wasn’t stable, and many people that installed it then have been having one issue or the other. To remedy this, simply install the latest update available in Settings >> System Update and the problems should go away.
hello I got my fine updated today and fine and good everything was working perfectly so suddenly I just detected that anytime my phone got locked I won’t be able to do anything on the phone again the calibration will stop working unleas I restart it again and same time happen after locked.. ..am just damn tired like… ..what do you think I can do to that?

Was the update successful? If yes, you’re probably on Android 8 Oreo already. Go to Settings >> System >> About Phone and check the Android Version to see if the update really went well.

Which Infinix phone do you want to update? If you check System Update in the phone settings and you’re told an official update is available, you can go on and install the update, provided the phone isn’t rooted.
My note 4 pro is working after update to versions 8.1 and will stop working after you lock it and unlock it back and noting is working again unless I off the phone and on it back

That means you did things right. Please check your system update for the latest software update. It should fix your phone’s problems. I’ve updated my phone twice after upgrading to Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest being about two weeks ago.

Hi Victor, you need an external SD card (memory card) to perform the update on your Infinix phone.
So if there’s not enough space on your internal storage and there is on your SD card, you are good to go? 👀

Well I’m seeing some little problem about this upgrading to Oreo 8.1 but I really have the interest of upgrade because of the eye care, but I’m having difficulties , I tried to update but it keep on saying that I should free up some space, but I have enough space in Memory card, please how can I fixed that.
You need to have around 3GB of free space on your memory card before you can update. If you have up to that and you’re still getting the error, restart your phone and try again.
There is no fast charge with d oreo update nd d battery drain fast ….it takes 3hrs 30min to full now …oreo is a total disaster

I’m still able to use fast charge since I upgraded to Oreo, and my battery is just as strong as before. You probably upgraded in the early days of the release, when it wasn’t stable.
Please check for system updates and upgrade to the latest version to fix this.
What is your view on Oreo performance vs nougat in note 4?
I received update notification some months ago, of which i updated mine to 8.1.0. I didn’t like d performance of oreo compare to nougat.
Part of what i noticed on oreo were the fact that. I could not edit video. I could not multiselect while holding down on what to delete in sms like nougat, there was delay in picture capturing n quality of pictures dropped, app lock respond failing, incoming call wouldn’t come on time for picking while ringing and lot of bugs
I later downgraded back to nougat.
So what is now the latest on oreo bugs update
You most probably upgraded when the update initially came out, when it was unstable. I assure you, the current release is fine and definitely better than Nougat. The only issue might be the little reduction in rear camera picture quality.

These questions might sound somehow, but I need a definite YES to them to know how to proceed. Are you sure you’re using an Infinix Note 4, or a Note 4 Pro? Is your phone rooted? Have you carried out advanced operations on it, like flashing a custom ROM, unlocking the bootloader, etc before?
I am having the same issue with Ebuka. I am using an Infinix Note 4. My phone is not rooted and I have not carried out any of the other operations on it.
